Preparing Yourself
You can be a person who is starting a new hobby, someone who is getting ready to start a new journey in the literal sense or a new chapter of their lives. Either way there is always some preparation beforehand. For example, if it is a new hobby like painting that you intend on starting you will probably have to go to the stationary shop and buy the necessary items like paint, brushes and a canvas to paint on. This preparation will give you a certain motivation and will probably make the hobby last for some time.
It is the same with learning a new language. Without the preparation this new journey will just fade away with time and you will not be motivated enough to go forward which will result in the loss of interest in learning the language. There will be no kick start to your journey. Therefore preparation is essential. Especially, if you are learning a particular language to a level of fluency where you can comfortably converse with everyone else around, you will need a great deal of preparation beforehand.
The preparation can be physical and mental.
If it is mental it should aim for longevity of the particular hobby or new series of actions that you are initiating. In this case, learning the English language well, in the four areas of speaking, writing, listening and reading.
- Setting goals
First of all you should set goals. These goals should most importantly be achievable in a certain period of time. By setting impossible or difficult goals the task ahead will put pressure on your mind and you will eventually lose interest.
For example, setting a goal like “I am going to be the best English speaker in the country” is not appropriate since there will always be someone ahead of you. And it is going to be never ending and tiring, not to mention unnecessary.
But a goal like “by next year I will be able to watch an English movie without subtitles” is achievable and motivating.
The goal that you set will motivate you and give an indication to the areas of the language learning that you have to pay attention for. Keep the goal in your mind like a mantra and every time you start feeling the loss of balance and grip on the study material this will motivate you to never give up.
Remember that you will not be able to see immediate results with a task like this. You have to be patient and keep going forward. And with no time without knowing, you might have already achieved the goals.
- Positivity maintenance
One of the most important things you have to do is to have a positive mindset. Even if you are currently struggling, with a positive mindset the tasks ahead will look easier. You should start this journey with a positive mindset and you should maintain the positivity throughout.
- Study plan
The study plan that you make should first of all be achievable and secondly it should suit to your interests and your availability of time to dedicate to this process. The study plan should go along with your interest and in the end it will be a fun process for you. If you are someone who is busy with work make the study plan according to the time you have so it doesn’t bother you with your daily routine. And if you are a person who loves movies put a session where you can practice learning the language through movies. Simply saying the journey should be exciting to you and only you. Don’t follow standard methods approved by the majority if it is not your cup of tea.
